Writing Processes & Adaptation

Learning Outcome #1:Students will be able to describe and reflect on writing processes in order to flexibly adapt them to support their goals.

Artifact: Fable or Parable

This piece of writing was probably the one that I was most comfortable in writing for it is not far off from the style of literature that I am used to creating. I have always loved stories with a magical feel and a strong willed character to take you through the story. When it comes to fables, I feel that there is a lot of flexibility in writing them in comparison to other forms of writing and storytelling. When it comes to fables, there is usually the setup or the creation of the world that you are sinking yourself into. You then usually are given a roadblock that you must overcome, but the ending goal is to usually end in a positive note and leave you with a lasting learning outcome. The story is usually written with a clear goal to leave a lasting message on the reader. I have found that within this style of writing I am able to bring my point to the reader across very vividly so much so where it can be directly stated within the writing. I find that this writing process is one where I can very easily adapt it to support my goals for the reader.

Artifact: Analysis on Tanabata Poems

Within Tanabata poems, or Japanese literature and culture, the writing process is much different in comparison to fables. The poems are often structured in a way that strives to keep the end goal always keeping their deep-rooted traditions alive. While learning more about their writing style, it has helped me when it comes to adapting overall in different writing styles and structures, as I feel much more versatile than before. The poems are usually always circled around the themes of love and longing and gave me a better sense of expressing my own deep emotions in a way that can be not only concise, but have a strong impact on the reader, which is usually the goal in these poems. Their writing has helped me to become more innovative in finding unique ways to express my ideas and goals to the reader. This can be seen within the story are of the star-crossed lovers, who are taking that saying to heart as they are literally separated by the galaxy, but that doesn't stop then from their love persevering. Their writing involves a lot of self reflection which is something I need to work on as a writer as it is a great way for me understand my own thoughts and emotions better which can give me a more authentic meaning to the goal at hand when writing.
